Manness Mission Projects

Manness Mission Projects is an endeavor started to keep the legacy of Bill and Cecilia Manness alive.  They both served in Haiti from 1980-1992.  They had a love for Haitian people, their education, and the opportunity for them to live a better life.  They served in Jeremie and Port au Prince and began the Methodist Guest House in Port au Prince.  Projects will not be limited to Haiti, but wherever there is a need.  After the deaths of Cecilia in 1994 and Bill in 2012, the family wanted to continue their legacy and this project was born.

The Christian Education Center for the Deaf in South Haiti

Pastor Jacob was employed as a teacher at the Haitian Christin Centre for the Deaf for many years, but one day it closed.  The deaf students were “thrown out on the street to fend for themselves.”  In 2007, land was acquired and a makeshift structure was erected for Pastor Jacob to hold church.  In January 2013, in conjunction with a nearby orphanage, Pastor Jacob was able to open a school for the deaf in the church.  The possibility exists to greatly multiply the numbers of students.

The vision continues and the entire deaf community in Haiti is hopeful that the vision will one day be realized.  The Manness Mission Projects’ goal is to be a part of this vision. Already completed: a well has been dug, a septic system is in place, and bathrooms are under construction, with completion by summer, 2016.  The next steps include, but are not limited to, building a small outdoor kitchen and “the 8 food wall” surrounding the complex, a new church (roof has been donated), dorms for deaf students, a school, housing for teachers, and a vocational school.
